Hairy Bikers star Si King has shared his outrage over the infamous Sycamore Gap tree being ‘murdered’.

The world-famous tree, which featured in 1991 blockbuster Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, is believed to have been deliberately cut down overnight, after it was found felled early this morning.

The landmark tree, believed to be hundreds of years old, stood beside Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland.

The shocking incident has caused fury in Si, who took to Instagram to share his rage after the tree, thought to be several hundred years old, was ‘murdered by vandals’.

He began: ‘Hello everyone, I’ve just been made aware that we’ve lost the Sycamore at Sycamore Gap.

‘Somebody has felled it apparently.’

The 56-year-old TV chef went on: ‘Well I hope whoever has done that has a conscience, because you’ve just murdered a sentinel of time and elemental spirit of Northumberland, and I hope you feel really good about yourself.

‘For whatever warped reason you’ve done it, it’s shocking.’

Si, who is from Kibblesworth, a town just an hour outside of Northumberland, remained speechless for a moment as he looked emotional.

Shaking his head, he concluded: ‘I’m beyond words.’

‘Sycamore Gap tree of some 300 years murdered by vandals,’ Si wrote in the caption, as many of his followers agreed with his fury.

Police are now investigating whether a criminal offence has taken place, after the tree was found felled this morning.
